Baby Elliott | Newborn Lifestyle Session

Baby Elliott | Newborn Lifestyle Session

There is something so special when a family invites me into their home and allows me to photograph some of those precious family moments when there’s a new member of the family. Despite my business name, I don’t actually own a studio or do studio photography work (at least right now). I’m completely on-location. That’s not what the name is about – another post for another day! I favor newborn sessions done in the home and really focused on capturing the family without all the props and fanfare. That’s just not me.

Sarah and Christian welcomed Elliott into the world in early May and she had sought me out prior in hopes of a lifestyle session for her newborn. I was so excited because I actually really like shooting families in home. I found this out after my good friend Allyson allowed me to do her daughter’s newborn photos.

Big brother Xavier, who is now three, provided an endless amount of toddler entertainment. I have a feeling one day these two will be good buddies and that Xavier will enjoy having a little brother to play and run around with. I know I feel that way about my younger sister. But for the session, we smiled and waited for a sweet moment to arrive…and it did. Elliott was a perfect angel and cried less than all the other newborns I’ve encountered…win!

Baby Lyla | Newborn Session

Baby Lyla | Newborn Session

I have known Allyson since freshman year of college. We lived next to each other for a whole year and spent many nights on the couch watching Lifetime movies and Grey’s Anatomy. Allyson and her husband Zack live nearby and this past fall,Allyson sent me a message and asked if I wanted to shoot her soon-to-be-born baby girl’s newborn photos. And I was SO. EXCITED. Of course I said yes because I have been dying to do more in-home baby/family sessions.

I’ve never had a lot of babies to hold or play with in my life. I adore them and think they are so cute, but I’ve not spent a ton of time around them. I met Lyla when she was 10 days old and she just has a mind her own…meaning she didn’t sleep a wink during our session! It didn’t matter because we were aiming for lifestyle photos — capturing the family as they would be.

It’s incredible to watch friends become mothers. Allyson is a wonderful person and I can tell that she is an awesome mom. I was honored to take Lyla’s newborn photos and some photos of this precious little family. I can only hope that Josh and I have two little girls that are just as cute (fingers crossed!).
