Fall Stony Creek Maternity Session | Ashley & Ryan

I’ll let you in on a secret – the best time for a fall Stony Creek maternity session is usually the first week of November. This was definitely the case for Ashley and Ryan – they got the most gorgeous time of the fall for their Stony Creek maternity session.

They brought along their pup so we decided to take to some of the less traversed areas of the park, which I always appreciate in the fall. They trusted me and I just adore how this session came out. Ashley is the cutest pregnant person ever geez!

I love the color Ashley chose to wear for this fall Stony Creek maternity session. It’s the perfect color for fall! I usually prefer longer dresses for maternity sessions. I think there’s something lovely about the movement of this one. It’s from Pink Blush Maternity!

There’s no bad season for maternity sessions. I recommend scheduling your session between 32-36 weeks for optimal comfort and look – as well as to avoid pre-term labor!

Winter Maybury State Park Maternity Session

It’s always an honor when past wedding clients grow their families and have me capture future chapters for them! These two chose to have a winter Maybury State Park maternity session – one of the best spots in the metro for a maternity session in ANY season. You can see another winter session here.

Amber and Jeff’s baby is actually the same age as mine – we were due a day apart! What are the odds of that? So lovely to share their joy in this session…Amber was absolutely the most beautiful pregnant person I’ve ever seen, and we got the BEST golden hour light for March. I can’t believe how lucky we got!

The best part about a winter Maybury State Park maternity session is the evergreens. It’s easy to walk into and they look good no matter what.

One of the major questions I get is when should I book a maternity session? It’s obviously your choice, but I recommend being in the third trimester; between weeks 30-36 are best. After that you won’t want to move around as much and we risk pre-term labor!

Summer Maternity Session at Stony Creek Metropark

I’m always so honored to be asked to photograph the major milestones of a couple’s life. I was so honored to photograph Jenay and Daevon’s summer maternity session at Stony Creek Metropark one month before they met their precious little Desirae. These two were a 2018 wedding couple of mine and years later, I can’t get over the brightness of Jenay’s smile – the BEST!

Stony Creek Metropark is great for a summer maternity session but truly the park is popular for good reason. It’s great in every season (see those tall pine trees) and since the park is so big, there are numerous spots to use, though the tall pines are the most popular! For this summer maternity session, we got the most amazing golden hour sunset – doesn’t Jenay just look incredible?

Many clients skip the maternity session and decide on just newborn photos, but I think there’s just a sense of anticipation in a maternity session. Much like engagement photos, there’s always this palpable anticipation that you can’t re-create later on. Maybe it’s just me and my photo-loving self, but if you’re on the fence, take the photos.

Livonia Maternity Photographer

We had to reschedule TWICE, but I was so glad that we had literally the PERFECT night for Elizabeth and Jon’s maternity session. We visited Greenmead Historical Park (a Livonia maternity photographer favorite!) because all Elizabeth requested was blooms on the trees! But we got the most gorgeous golden hour and I had so much fun with these too!

These two had a long journey to parenthood and when I heard their story, I felt so honored that they would ask me to photograph their maternity photos. Their baby was born a few weeks ago and I know that the joy they must feel now is incredible. I am truly so happy for them and that their journey has led them to parenthood in this way!

We talked about how they met (a jazz festival) and how they weren’t learning the sex of their baby until it’s born. They had a name for their embryo (Billy) and more photos of their kiddo in utero than anyone they’ve heard of. This little one is well documented.

I love the anticipation in maternity sessions; they are so similar to engagement sessions in that way…the anticipation of the next chapter is so exciting to document!

Trenton Maternity Photographer – Sarah & Jon

One of the last sessions I shot before COVID-19 forced me to stop working was Sarah and Jon’s Trenton maternity session, exactly a month before they met their beautiful baby girl in April.

As a Trenton maternity photographer, this session was special for me because not only is Sarah an old co-worker turned good friend, but Sarah and Jon were the first couple to hire me for their wedding. Without them, this business wouldn’t even exist.

I am so happy that I was able to photograph this moment of anticipation for them and I know that they are kicking butt at being parents.

Northville Maternity Photographer

Because I primarily am a wedding photographer, I don’t get to put on a Northville maternity photographer hat too often. But when I do, it’s a lot of fun!

Shelby and Matt have since welcomed their little Layla (she was born in January), but I wanted to share their beautiful winter maternity session at Maybury State Park.

I absolutely love the dress color that Shelby choose. A brighter color always sticks out well in the winter months against the somewhat brown-ish backdrop. Also the red and the evergreens…just beautiful!

As a Northville maternity photographer, I had a ton of fun guiding Shelby and Matt through this session, but they were total naturals! Literally so much fun to be around and they didn’t complain about the cold at all!

Maybury State Park is one of my favorite spots in the area for photos because of the beautiful tall grass fields, forest, and evergreens all easily accessible without taking a long hike. Simple goes further in my book!
